From October 16 to October 22, schools are invited to join thousands across the country in going green for Waste Reduction Week.
The campaign, which began in 2001 by Waste Reduction Week in Canada, was created to "empower all Canadians to adopt more environmentally conscious choices."
"By joining communities, businesses, organizations, and other schools across Canada and supporting Waste Reduction Week, we hope you will take this opportunity to support a national campaign that builds awareness around issues of sustainable and responsible consumption; encourages choice for more responsible products/services; and promotes actions that reduce disposal and conserve natural resources."
Waste Reduction Week aligns with the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board's Improvement Plan which promotes respect and reverence to Creation and the natural environment. This is done by actively supporting environmental initiatives and practices in schools and board buildings through the promotion of energy conservation, waste minimization, school ground greening and ecological literacy in response to our baptismal call to be Stewards of Creation.
Schools can also pledge to Take the Waste-Free Lunch Challenge by visiting: http://wrwcanada.com/en/food-waste-pledge- ...
