Letter to Parents/Guardians: Move to remote learning

January 3, 2022

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Ontario government today announced that schools will be closed for in-person learning beginning January 5, 2022, as students move to remote learning until at least Monday, January 17. The decision follows updated public health measures, announced on December 30, to reduce the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. The Province has indicated that schools will reopen for in-person learning on January 17th, subject to public health trends and operational considerations.

In-person instruction will be permitted for students with special education needs who cannot be accommodated remotely. Parents/guardians of students who meet this criteria will be contacted and provided details in the next few days.

In-school childcare centres are permitted to remain open during the remote learning period. Child care will be available to pre-school children only. Before and after school programs will reopen with the return to in-person learning on January 17, 2022, subject to public health trends and operational considerations.

Parents whose children are in need of technology to access remote learning are asked to please contact their child’s school.

Information on how to connect to the remote classroom and the daily schedule will be provided by the school.

Additional information for parents/guardians will be provided later today or tomorrow.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
