Catholic Education Week (May 1-6, 2022) will kick off in the HWCDSB with a Catholic Education Week Opening Liturgy celebrated by His Excellency, Bishop Crosby.

The mass will be live streamed from St.Patrick’s Parish on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 10:00am. Click here to access the live-streamed Mass.

A province-wide Mass for Catholic Education Week, celebrated by His Eminence, Thomas Cardinal Collins, will follow on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 10:00am. All students, families, board staff, trustees and the broader Catholic community are invited to participate “virtually” in this celebration of the Eucharist. Click here to access the live streamed Mass from St. Michael’s Cathedral.

Catholic Education Week is traditionally held during the first week of May and is a time during which we give thanks for and celebrate the ongoing gift of publicly funded Catholic education in Ontario.

This year’s theme, “Catholic Education: Rebuild, Restore, Renew Together.” The overall scriptural theme is taken from Revelation: “Behold, I make all things new” (Revelation 21: 5). The theme reflects the continuing reality of COVID-19 and the work before us to Rebuild, Restore and Renew Together; the challenges to personal and spiritual well-being posed by the uncertainty and physical isolation of the current global crisis; ongoing recognition of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission and the relevance of Indigenous culture and spirituality; and the Ministry of Education’s focus on Inclusion and Equity.

The five sub-themes, one for each day of Catholic Education Week, are as follows:
• Monday: Rediscover
• Tuesday: Rebuild
• Wednesday: Restore
• Thursday: Renew
• Friday: Rejoice

Catholic Education Week is marked by special activities at all grade levels, including prayer celebrations and service activities.
